SUMMARY:2025 35th Annual Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon @ Duluth MN
DESCRIPTION:Garry Bjorklund won the inaugural Grandma’s Marathon in 1977 and was again the champion in 1980. \nWhile that may be his local claim to fame\, the Duluth area native also represented the United States in the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games\, placing 13th in the 10\,000-meters. \nIn 1991\, the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon was created to recognize his lifelong contributions to running throughout the area and state of Minnesota. \nThe race has now grown to become one of the largest half marathons in the country\, welcoming approximately 10\,000 participants each year to the shores of Lake Superior. \nStarting line is at Greenwood Rd & Scenic Hwy 61.  Finish line is at Canal Park in Duluth MN. \n\n5:50 a.m. — Adaptive\n6:00 a.m. — Men’s Elite & Sub-Elite\n6:00 a.m. — Women’s Elite & Sub-Elite\n6:00 a.m. — Citizens

Friday afternoon\, the Duluth NAACP hosts the 52nd Annual Juneteenth Celebration\, bringing our community together to commemorate freedom\, progress\, and Black history.\nOn Saturday\, Family Freedom Center\, Ignite Empower Transform\, and the Duluth African Heritage Commission invite the community to gather for the Juneteenth Street Dance & Concert\, a high-energy celebration featuring live performances from local and regional artists\, community speakers\, family activities\, and opportunities to connect with neighbors from across the Twin Ports.\nEvent Activities Include:• Live music and performances throughout the day• Community basketball tournament (12:00 PM – 4:00 PM)• Kids games and family activities• Local food and merchandise vendors• Unapologetically African\, an interactive cultural exhibit exploring African history\, innovation\, leadership\, and achievement before\, during\, and after the era of slavery• Raffles\, prizes\, giveaways\, and guest speakers\nJuneteenth marks the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates the strength\, perseverance\, and contributions of Black people throughout history.
