DESCRIPTION:Join the St. Louis River Alliance and partners for a special River Revival exploring the return of Ishkode (good fire) to Wisconsin Point and its role in restoring forest health\, cultural connection\, and ecological balance in the St. Louis River Estuary. This field visit takes place Thursday\, September 17 from 5:00–6:30 p.m. on Wisconsin Point\, parking and leaving from Lot 5. 5 p.m. food is served\, 5:30 p.m. program begins.\nParticipants will visit the 2025 culturally prescribed burn site\, marking the return of fire to this landscape for the first time in over 150 years\, completed in partnership with the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and regional collaborators. The burn is part of ongoing efforts to restore forest health\, reduce wildfire risk\, and revitalize Indigenous land stewardship practices.\nThe program includes a guided walk of approximately one mile over uneven forest terrain through the burn area to observe early regeneration and recovery. Light snacks and beverages will be provided.\nFor more information and updates\, go to www.stlouisriver.org/events\nThis is the final event in our 2026 River Revival Series. DESCRIPTION:Are you curious about the practice of harvesting & processing Wild Rice? Manoominikewin – Ojibwemowin for harvesting wild rice – holds both cultural significance and ecological importance. Join the Lake Superior Reserve and UW-Superior on September 20th at the Pokegama Bay Boat Launch from 3:00pm-4:30pm to learn about traditional wild rice harvesting and processing! This free program features traditional rice processing stations\, including parching\, hulling\, and winnowing\, as well as harvesting demos.\nWe’ll gather in light-rain or shine\, and will post a notification day-of for a severe weather cancellation. Rice Processing stations will be available at 3:00pm at the Pokegama Bay Boat Launch (restrooms are available). Parking at the launch will be limited\, so please be prepared to park along the gravel road (Billings Drive).\nCome dressed for the weather and be prepared to move around outdoors. See details below.\nFULL EVENT INFORMATION:Birds will be migrating to their winter homes. October is the month where the largest of the raptors–like Bald and Golden Eagles\, Red-tailed Hawks\, Rough-legged Hawks\, and Northern Goshawks–migrate through Hawk Ridge. Come join us on fall World Migratory Bird Day to celebrate this movement and indicator of changing seasons!\nWe welcome people of all ages\, abilities\, and disabilities to attend this accessible bird observation event at Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory\, 3980 E Skyline Parkway in Duluth.\n**American Sign Language interpretation is provided.\n**We have 15 pairs of binoculars for people to use\, a spotting scope\, a wheelchair mount for binoculars\, and some portable seating.\n**Come and stay for the whole time\, or meet up with or leave the group when you need.\n**Meet us on-site!! If you’ve already registered to reserve your spot on the bus\, then join us and take FREE TRANSPORTATION provided from two different stops: from the Superior Public Library (1530 Tower Avenue in Superior) and Lakeview Covenant Church (1001 Jean Duluth Rd in Duluth) to Hawk Ridge.\n\n\nTRANSPORTATION DETAILS: \nIf you registered and requested a spot on the bus\, it is reserved for you! As of 10/7 at 4:30pm the bus is full and can’t accommodate additional drop-in riders.\nThe bus is a school bus from Voyageur Bus Company with steps for entry\, a wheelchair lift\, 4 wheelchair spots and room for 25 adults on bus seats.\nBUS PICK-UP SUPERIOR 9:10 am: UW-Superior Parking Lot 2 (behind Burger King). The bus will be ready for loading starting at 9:10 a.m. Bus departs Lot 2 for Lakeview Covenant Church at approximately 9:15 a.m.\nBUS PICK-UP DULUTH 9:35 am: Lakeview Covenant Church – 1001 Jean Duluth Rd. There is a public bus stop for DTA route 103 at Glenwood & Woodbury about 350 ft or a 1 minute walk away. Pickup will be between 9:35 and 9:40 a.m. on the morning of the event. You may park your car in the lot\, if you choose to ride the bus from the church.\nWe will have a staff member on-site at each bus stop holding an “Everyone Can Bird” sign. One ASL interpreter will be on the bus starting in Superior!!\nBUS RETURN: The bus will stay at Hawk Ridge for the duration of the program. DESCRIPTION:Garry Bjorklund won the inaugural Grandma’s Marathon in 1977 and was again the champion in 1980. \nWhile that may be his local claim to fame\, the Duluth area native also represented the United States in the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games\, placing 13th in the 10\,000-meters. \nIn 1991\, the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon was created to recognize his lifelong contributions to running throughout the area and state of Minnesota. \nThe race has now grown to become one of the largest half marathons in the country\, welcoming approximately 10\,000 participants each year to the shores of Lake Superior. \nStarting line is at Greenwood Rd & Scenic Hwy 61.  Finish line is at Canal Park in Duluth MN. \n\n5:50 a.m. — Adaptive\n6:00 a.m. — Men’s Elite & Sub-Elite\n6:00 a.m. — Women’s Elite & Sub-Elite\n6:00 a.m. — Citizens
