SUMMARY:Hands Across the Bong Bridge
DESCRIPTION:THE GREATEST BRIDGE BRIGADE EVER!On June 14th\, Flag Day\, join Rise Up Superior\, Good Trouble Indivisible\, Zenith City Indivisible\, Duluth Indivisible\, and Duluth 50501 for Hands Across the Richard I. Bong Memorial Bridge.\nWe will assemble on either side of the Richard I. Bong Memorial Bridge between Superior and Duluth (or Duluth and Superior\, depending on your perspective) and march with signs and flags across the bridge on the protected pedestrian/bike path. Somewhere near the middle\, we will join hands (and hearts and minds) in a demonstration of unity for democracy\, for justice and for community. Two States. Two Cities. One Bridge. One Country. Our Country.\nThe Bong Bridge is 2.2 miles long – we will need about 3\,000 people to be able to truly hold hands across the Bong Bridge. This event is set up for the Duluth access to the bike/pedestrian path (W. Michigan and S. 43rd Avenue West). DESCRIPTION:Join the St. Louis River Alliance and the City of Superior for a guided walking tour of the 44th Ave E dock—formerly known as the Bunge Dock—the future site of a public waterfront access area on Allouez Bay. Old Dock – New Era: Public Access and Possibility at 44th Ave E (Bunge Dock) will be hosted on Thursday\, June 18 from 5:00-6:30 PM at the 44th Ave. Dock (Bunge Dock) located at 1 44th Avenue East Superior.\nDuring this on-site tour\, participants will explore the location’s industrial history\, current conditions\, and the possibilities for future public use. St. Louis River Alliance and Stantec (engineering designers) staff will gather community input as part of ongoing engagement and outreach efforts to help shape the vision for this emerging public space. SUMMARY:2025 35th Annual Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon @ Duluth MN
DESCRIPTION:Garry Bjorklund won the inaugural Grandma’s Marathon in 1977 and was again the champion in 1980. \nWhile that may be his local claim to fame\, the Duluth area native also represented the United States in the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games\, placing 13th in the 10\,000-meters. \nIn 1991\, the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon was created to recognize his lifelong contributions to running throughout the area and state of Minnesota. \nThe race has now grown to become one of the largest half marathons in the country\, welcoming approximately 10\,000 participants each year to the shores of Lake Superior. \nStarting line is at Greenwood Rd & Scenic Hwy 61.  Finish line is at Canal Park in Duluth MN. \n\n5:50 a.m. — Adaptive\n6:00 a.m. — Men’s Elite & Sub-Elite\n6:00 a.m. — Women’s Elite & Sub-Elite\n6:00 a.m. — Citizens

DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday\, June 23 at 6 p.m.\, Superior Public Library will host Superior authors Thomas Johnson\, Anthony Bukoski\, and Victoria Lynn Smith. They will read briefly from their work\, then discuss how and why they write and the process by which they have sold book-length manuscripts to publishers. A question-and-answer period will follow.\nPublishers Weekly called Johnson’s book Rescuing Claire “an immensely appealing first novel\,” Kirkus Reviews describing his prose as “muscular.” Booklist called the lengthy first piece in Bukoski’s The Thief of Words “striking\,” going on to say\, “Bukoski’s stories finely capture the unobserved weight of identity and things left behind.” Smith’s rich and wise debut story collection\, Silent Negotiations\, will be published in February 2027 by Cornerstone Press.

In partnership with our friends at North Shore SUP\, this event will help you connect with the breathtaking beauty of the St. Louis River Estuary National Water Trail. \nIf you’ve ever been curious about Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) or haven’t had formal instruction\, this free\, beginner-friendly event is perfect for you. The class includes a combination of on-land instruction and on-water paddling time\, creating a supportive learning environment for first-time paddlers. \nMeet us at Munger Landing’s sandy launch for an engaging and instructional hour-long introduction to Stand Up Paddleboarding. Participants will learn SUP basics\, including how to properly size and handle equipment\, board anatomy and terminology\, proper stance\, paddling techniques and transitions\, and a bit of SUP history along the way. This will be in a fun and safe\, immersive learning environment where all equipment is provided for you. Guests will have a one hour time slot\, with 10 people in each group at a time max. \nAll participants will receive a free St. Louis River Estuary National Water Trail map to inspire future adventures.
