The Brown Water Navy was a part of the US Navy used specifically for inland rivers & waterways. In the Vietnam War, the Brown Water Navy was largely successful in its efforts to stop North Vietnam from using the South Vietnamese coast & rivers to resupply its military and the Viet Cong.
Presented by Bob Hoyt, US Navy Veteran.
Bob Hoyt Jr. served with the US Navy from September 1965 – September 1967. He served one tour of duty in Vietnam aboard the USS Jennings County (LST 846). His LST supported the growing number of River Patrol Boats (PBR’s) in the Delta of Vietnam. His ship repaired, refueled and rearmed the PBR’s and helicopters.
