Thursday, April 16 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm

  Mitchell Auditorium
A man with short dark hair and a beard stands outdoors in a sunlit desert landscape, wearing a plaid shirt. Distant mountains are blurred in the background.

Jason de León presents on his National Book Award-winning project Soldiers and Kings. In 2015, de León began a long-term ethnographic project focused on understanding the daily lives of Honduran smugglers who profit from transporting migrants across the length of Mexico. In this talk, he presents stories from his recent book and examines the complicated relationship among transnational gangs, the human smuggling industry, and migrant desires for safety and well-being.
