In Superior, nobody gets doused with water, unless you want that, of course.

Taking a cooling dip in Lake Superior at Wisconsin Point.

Everyone is welcome in Superior, Wisconsin. In fact, we WANT you to come and enjoy our city along the Lake Superior shoreline — and we’re going to treat you with a lot of kindness when you get here.

You’ve probably heard the news that people in Barcelona and other locations in Spain are spraying tourists with water and yelling, “Go home!”

Not in Superior. We want you here. Heck, the more, the merrier!

Just for fun, imagine that it’s the beginning of your vacation which you have been looking forward to for a long time. You just strapped your kayak to the roof of your car on a hot and humid day. You feel the sweat dripping down your back. You hop into your vehicle and – doh! your air conditioning is out of freon. But being who you are, you strap in and head north because that is how you roll.

It’s HOT! Incredibly hot … your windows are down, but that’s not helping. Your vision starts to blur and you’re feeling a bit nauseous. You can’t hear the radio. You can’t hold a conversation. Your lower butt is stuck to the seat.

Your front window starts to fog a bit and you’re on the verge of turning around when suddenly you see it: “WELCOME TO SUPERIOR.”

You belt out a huge sigh of relief that you can finally get out of your sauna-on-wheels and cool off in the Lake Superior breezes. You breathe in the clean, cool air which has a faint scent of fresh trout. You hear a ship in the distance. A sailboat glides by.

All around you, people are smiling and laughing. A plane flies by with a banner reading “Welcome to our City! We want you here!” A tear rolls down your cheek. You’re soaking with sweat. Everything you just went through on your drive washes away. You find yourself completely absorbed in this magical place.

Suddenly, someone douses you with a cool bucket of water. You’ve arrived. Welcome to Superior, Wisconsin where nobody will ever tell you to go home.
